Description

Penn Squall 40 Lever Drag Fishing Reel

New lever drag saltwater fishing reel from Penn! This little powerhouse is ideal for catching a wide variety of saltwater offshore game fish, including sailfish, king mackerel, dolphin, kingfish, cobia, tuna, and others.

The Penn Squall 40 LD features a forged aluminum spool in a lightweight graphite reel body, and a unique ratcheted lever drag that provides for a consistent drag setting, eliminating "drag creep" when the reels lever is set between free spool and strike, or between strike and full. This reel packs a heavy-duty marine grade bronze washers and Penn's Dura-Drag that eliminate drag hesitation, even when set on the higher end of the drag curve.

The Penn Squall 40 will hold 540 yards of 20 LB Test, 360 of 30 LB Test, topping out at 300 YDS of 40 LB Test monofilament fishing line. Braided line capacities of 540 YDS of 80 LB Test, and 750 YDS of 50. The maximum drag setting at full is 18 LBS.

Buyer's Guide

Penn Squall 40 Lever Drag Fishing Reel

Impressive new reel from Penn! Perfect for catching Kingfish and Sailfish. This little powerhouse features an aluminum spool and a light weight graphite frame. Combo'ed out with a Sceptre Kingfish or Sailfish Tournament Series rod, this reel will work great for slow trolling live baits, or kite fishing. The Sceptre line of Tournament Series Rods, will provide you with the sensitivity for fishing live baits down deep off the downriggers, off the kites, or when slow trolling surface baits.

I am very impressed with all of the new reels that Penn is coming out with. Traditional Penn Quality, durability, and performance. Awesome!

Penn Squall 40 Lever Drag Innovative Features:

  • Versa-Handle System - Are you bottom fishing or trolling? Are you looking for power or speed? Penn's Versa-Handle System allows the angler to choose how long the handle should be in less than a minute; tools are included with each reel. Assemble the reel in the long position for more power; assemble in the short position for more speed, your choice.
  • Line Capacity Rings eliminate the question of how much line you have left when fighting a fish. The three lines on the spool flange let you know when you have 1/3rd, 2/3rd, or a full spool of line. Also if you res-pool often these lines give you a benchmark for backing your super lines with monofilament which will help eliminate wasted time and line.
  • Switchblade Harness Lugs give you all the benefits of traditional lugs without the risk of grabbing loose line and potentially breaking off fish. When the lugs are not in use they remain flush with the reel frame, when you need them they easily pop up with the tip of your finger. The other benefit of the proprietary Switchblade harness lugs is basic ergonomics. Let’s face it, harness lugs can be uncomfortable when you are palming the reel on the cast or retrieve. If you don’t plan to use the lugs then stow them in the down position and you have one of the most ergonomic reels on the market. Included on 50 & 60 sizes only.
